Zooveniers was inspired by a trip to the Memphis Zoo in 2010.  During this time I had been toying around with the idea of doing a suite of miniatures; I love miniatures and the inherent challenge in making them interesting and complete musical ideas.   As I wandered the Zoo, I thought of how little time one spends looking at the exhibits before moving onto the next one, and BAM! inspiration struck.  The movements are as follows:

V. The Carousel

VI.  Pandas

VII.  Seals, Sea Lions, and Walruses

VIII. The Primate Pavillion

IX.  Zoo Exit

The piece is intended to be a fun romp through an imaginary zoo.  I plan on writing more movements at some point and releasing a “Zooveniers II” that can be combined with the first to make an even larger suite.
